Modular hospital for COVID-19 patients opens in northern Bucharest

A modular hospital for COVID-19 patients opened in Pipera, in northern Bucharest, at the end of last week, according to mayor Gabriela Firea.

The hospital, which has 400 beds (but the number can increase to 700 beds), will be used to treat mild coronavirus cases. It operates as an external section of the "Dr. Victor Babes" Infectious Diseases Hospital.

The Bucharest City Hall built the medical facility, through the Metropolitan Buildings Trust and the Company for the Consolidation of Buildings with Seismic Risk.

"Bucharest City Hall, through ASSMB, provided all the necessary things: from the construction of the spaces to their endowment, the provision of services and staff, the purchase of medicines and sanitary materials," Gabriela Firea wrote on Facebook.

A total of 61 doctors and nurses agreed to work in the new modular hospital, the mayor also said. "These are health professionals for the first 100 patients," she added.

The new medical facility has both single and two-bed rooms for patients, with air conditioning, sink, bathroom with shower, TVs, and internet access. There are also special rooms for the medical staff.

"Admission of patients to the External Modular Section Pipera will be made after their initial evaluation, clinical and radiological, at the "Dr. Victor Babes" Infectious Diseases Hospital," Gabriela Firea also said.
