Gold and silver for Romania at the European Fencing Championships in Poland

Romanian epee fencer Simona Gherman won the gold medal in the women's epee individual event of the European Fencing Championship in Torun, Poland, after defeating another Romanian athlete, Ana Maria Popescu. The final score was 9-5. This is Simona Gherman’s second European champion title, after the one from 2012. Ana Maria Popescu also won a gold medal in the 2013 European Fencing Championships. At this year’s European Championships, Gherman had a 13-12 win over French Josephine Jacques Andre Coquin, and then defeated Estonia’s Irina Embrich (15-11) and Julia Beljajeva (15-12), German Monika Sozanska (13-10), and Polish Renata Knapik-Miazga (15-12).
