Former Romanian mayor adviser, accused of taking quarter million euro bribe

The National Anti-Corruption Directorate (DNA) branch in the city of Ploiesti ordered yesterday the judicial control on bail for Robert Grigorescu, counselor of the former District 1 mayor Andrei Chiliman. Prosecutors brought Grigorescu to the DNA headquarters to hear him in a bribery case. Grigorescu is charged with taking bribes worth RON 1.3 million (EUR 287,000) between 2009 and 2013, according to the DNA prosecutors. The former counselor was demanding a fee of 10-15% to influence granting public contracts, the prosecutors said. DNA set up a bail of RON 200,000 (EUR 44,100) for Robert Grigorescu. DNA Ploiesti has also investigated former mayor Andrei Chiliman for influence peddling. Chiliman was held in the summer of 2015. editor@romania-insider.com
