The first Holocaust museum in Romania will open in a former police station in the North-Eastern city of Iasi. The Iasi pogrom of June 29, 1941, resulting in the murder of 14,850 people, was commemorated yesterday at the former police headquarters in Iasi, where 500 people were killed. Israel Ambassador to Romania Tamar Samash, Deputy Mayor of Jerusalem Yael Antebi and US Ambassador to Romania Hans Klemm took part at the ceremony yesterday. Klemm thanked local authorities and leaders of the Jewish community in Romania for their not having allowed history to be forgotten. During World War II, from 1940 to 1944, Romania was an ally of Nazi Germany.
