The Romanian Senate adopted on May 22, as the legislative decision-making chamber, with 79 votes to 28, the draft law on higher education - the last of the package of laws that implements President Klaus Iohannis' strategy "Educated Romania".
Education minister Ligia Deca said the law on higher education complements the law on pre-university education, thus ensuring a "coherent and predictable" approach to the educational process, Digi24 reported.
The law on pre-university education was previously adopted with 81 votes against 28.
The president of USR, Cătălin Drulă, announced that his party and the Force of the Right would challenge the new laws of education at the Constitutional Court. They say that, in the form voted by Social Democrats (PSD) and Liberals (PNL), the new laws violate the principle of equal rights, the right to education, the right to private life, and the right to public property.
USR and the Force of the Right will also invoke in the complaint a whole series of reasons related to the procedure, legal uncertainty, drafting errors, erroneous terminologies and legislative parallelisms, USR argued.
