Romania reports another daily record of 1,119 new COVID-19 cases

Romanian officials reported 1,119 new coronavirus cases in the past 24 hours, a record number for Romania since the start of the pandemic. The previous daily record was registered on Thursday, July 23, when the Romanian authorities reported 1,112 infections in 24 hours.

The total number of COVID-19 cases in Romania reached 42,394 on Friday, July 24, according to the daily official report.

Apart from the new cases, 470 patients retested positive for the COVID-19 infection in the last 24 hours.

More than 1.05 million tests were performed in Romania so far. Of these, 22,532 were performed in the last 24 hours: 12,839 based on the medical protocol, and 9,693 at the person’s request.

A total of 25,349 patients were declared cured so far, and 2,918 asymptomatic patients were discharged ten days after the diagnosis, the same report said.

Meanwhile, the death toll has risen to 2,150. A total of 24 deaths were reported between July 23 (10:00) and July 24 (10:00), in the age categories of 40-49 years (2 deaths), 50-59 years (2 deaths), 60-69 years (7 deaths), and 70-79 years (7 deaths), and 80+ years (6 deaths). All patients had previous medical conditions.

Across the country, 5,864 coronavirus patients are admitted in specialized hospitals. Of these, 301 are treated in intensive care units.

The same report announced that 845 people confirmed with the new coronavirus infection are isolated at home, and 1,420 people are in institutionalized isolation. Also, 6,810 people are under quarantine at home, and 39 people are in institutionalized quarantine.
