Romania reports more than 1,400 COVID-19 cases, a new single-day record

Romanian officials reported 1,415 new coronavirus cases in the past 24 hours, a record number for Romania since the start of the pandemic. Thus, the total number of COVID-19 cases in the country reached 65,177 on Wednesday, August 12, according to the official daily report.

Apart from the new cases, 763 patients retested positive for the COVID-19 infection in the last 24 hours.

More than 1.42 million tests were performed in Romania so far, of which 22,607 in the last 24 hours.

A total of 31,048 patients were declared cured so far, and 7,026 asymptomatic patients were discharged ten days after the diagnosis, the same report said.

Meanwhile, the death toll has risen to 2,807. A total of 43 deaths were reported between August 11 (10:00) and August 12 (10:00), in the age categories of 20-29 years (one death), 40-49 years (one death), 50-59 years (4 deaths), 60-69 years (15 deaths), and 70-79 years (16 deaths), and 80+ years (6 deaths). Forty-two of the patients had previous medical conditions.

The number of patients admitted to intensive care units was 485 on Wednesday, August 12. In total, 7,381 coronavirus patients are hospitalized.

The same report announced that 15,494 people confirmed with the new coronavirus infection are isolated at home, and 10,970 are in institutionalized isolation. Also, 39,900 people are under quarantine at home, and 214 are in institutionalized quarantine.

A forecast of public health specialists quoted by Digi24 said that the number of coronavirus cases reported daily in Romania could go up to over 2,800 in about a month (on September 8) if the current growth trend is maintained. The analysis took into account data from the National Institute of Public Health (INSP) for each day since the confirmation of the first case, but also a possible evolution for the next month, for September 8.
