Port of Constanta in Romania to invest EUR 650 mln in infrastructure

The Romanian company that operates Constanta port (CNAPM) has approved and is preparing investments of over EUR 650 mln in the port infrastructure, according to Ziarul Financiar calculations based on the data provided by its representatives.

"In order to support the port operators and to offer them conditions for attracting the traffic of goods, we are focused on investments in the port infrastructure, both from European funds and from our own sources," Florin Vizan, general director of the National Company for the Administration of Maritime Ports Constanta, told ZF.

The largest investment, for which projects worth over EUR 500 mln are being prepared, is carried out through the Sectoral Operational Programme 'Transport' from European funds.

Among the investment projects are the rehabilitation, modernization and extension of the road and access infrastructure in Constanta port and the Midia area (EUR 115 mln), dredging in Constanta, Midia and Mangalia and the widening of the access mouth in Midia (EUR 130 mln), the modernization of the electricity distribution infrastructure (EUR 95 mln), and the construction of some quays (EUR 75 mln).

The investments come in the context in which the freight traffic in the port has continuously increased, and this year could have an advance of 50% compared to 2013, according to calculations made by ZF based on data provided by company representatives.
