Former president of RO reformist party USR prepares own faction

The former co-president and later president of the Romanian reformist party USR (formerly USR-PLUS), Dacian Cioloş, is going to announce his resignation from the party in the next period, sources from inside the party told News.ro.

Along with him, some of his collaborators - most likely the party's MEPs - will also resign.

Dacian Cioloş resigned from the top of the party - where he reached following fierce internal competition - on February 7.

In October last year, Ciolos competed against Dan Barna, the two standing for the two political entities (PLUS and USR, respectively) that merged.

Currently, the interim president of the party is Cătălin Drulă (from Dan Barna faction).

After Cioloş left in February, several hundred USR members resigned from the party.

Cioloş is reportedly going to launch its own political vehicle. USR is preparing for internal elections, with the party's congress to be held in the summer or autumn.
