First solar-powered charging stations for e-bikes and e-scooters installed in Bucharest

Bucharest now has its first two solar-powered charging stations for electric bikes and scooters. Installed as part of a pilot project launched by EFdeN and Engie with support from the City Hall through the Bucharest Lakes, Parks and Leisure Administration (ALPAB), they offer a new, greener option for e-bike users in the Romanian capital.

The first such charging station is located in Izvor Park, close to the subway station, and is intended for the general public. Access and use are free of charge, according to the press release.

The second one is found on the campus of the Faculty of Installations Engineering and can be used by students.

The rCharge with green energy/rCharge cu energie verde project proposes a sustainable charging station for electric bicycles and scooters, which produces the energy it consumes and is made from reused materials.

“rCharge with green energy is not only a concept that promotes urban mobility, but is the result of a multidisciplinary and multisectoral collaboration, so important to solve the complex problems we face today,” said Corina Fugaru, Project Director, EFdeN.

The charging stations are built from recycled modular containers, the materials used are environmentally friendly, and the interior walls are finished from wood scraps or recycled wood from pallets and plywood.

The electricity needed to charge the e-bikes is produced with the help of bifacial photovoltaic panels installed on the roof. Moreover, the green energy produced this way is stored in car batteries that have been recycled and refurbished especially for this project.
