Bucharest metro stations to be equipped with tactile paving

The visually impaired people will be able to move more easily in the metro stations in Bucharest, as subway operator Metrorex decided to equip the stations with ceramic tactile paving. Metrorex approved the acquisition of consulting and design services for this project on May 10. The project targets 49 stations that don’t have special paving. The route for visually impaired people has already been drawn in two new stations on metro line 4, namely Jiului and Bazilescu Park, by installing special ceramic tiles, according to a statement of Metrorex. “The finishing projects for Line 5 and for the two new stations on Line 4 include facilities for people with disabilities, such as elevators and specifically marked lanes,” reads the statement. When necessary, the trained personnel can help people with disabilities reach the platform more easily. The metro maps displayed inside the stations indicate through specific icons the stations that can be easily accessed by people with disabilities. The information are also available on Metrorex’s website, and on the brochures containing the Metrorex map.
