Bucharest residents going on holiday included in city’s free Covid-19 testing program

The General Council of the City of Bucharest (CGMB) decided on Wednesday, July 15, to increase the number of those who can get a Covid-19 test in the city’s free testing program “We test for Bucharest.”

The number of test beneficiaries went up from 11,000 to 20,000, and Bucharest residents planning to go on holiday abroad have been added to the list of those who can be tested, Agerpresreported.

The decision passed with 31 votes in favor, 12 against, and two abstentions.

The decision came as more EU countries are demanding proof of a negative Covid-19 test from those who come from abroad.

Those who want to get tested will receive financial support amounting to RON 200 (EUR 41). Real-time PCR tests are used in the program, whose budget increased from RON 2.2 million (EUR 460,412) to RON 4 million (EUR 831,546).

Mayor Gabriela Firea said the City Hall is not over-crowding the real-time PCR testing equipment by increasing the number of those who can get tested since it purchased five additional PCR machines. She explained that the City Hall has partnerships with 12 state and private clinics which undertake the tests.
