Bucharest Animal Police gives first fine for pet abandonment

The Animal Police within the Local Police of Bucharest has recently fined a woman for abandoning her dog, this being the first such sanction applied by this department of the Local Police, Mediafax reported.

The woman got a fine of RON 1,000 for abandoning her pitbull aged one and a half years in an area close to the Giurgiului Road in Bucharest’s District 5. She reportedly decided to abandon the dog because there was no more room in the house for him.

The woman had the dog, named Oxy, since he was four months old.

“Oxy was put in the family car and forced out in an intersection of this area. After the car left, the dog entered, frightened, into a yard. Seeing the pitbull in front of the door, a tenant panicked and chased him away. Then he called the Authority for Animal Surveillance and Protection,” the Local Police said.

The policemen also found that the animal was not registered as required by the law.

In separate news, firefighters were called on Saturday morning in a neighborhood in Timisoara, in Western Romania, to save a dog from a tree. According to News.ro, people living in the area said the owner is believed to have thrown the dog out the window because the animal didn’t let him sleep. The dog was apparently thrown from the fourth floor and fell in the tree under the window.
