Bucharest City Hall organizes call for the reconstruction of 19th century Hala Matache

The Bucharest City Hall said it planned to rebuild Hala Matache, a 19

century market demolished in 2013, and would organize a call for solutions for its reconstruction, News.ro reported. Hala Matache was demolished to make way for the Berzei-Buzeşti boulevard. The call will be organized by the city hall in a partnership with the Romanian Architects Order, and the new building will follow the model of the old market hall. Besides Hala Matache, the city hall plans to rebuild the Matache market and draft an urbanism plan for the reconstruction of the Buzeşti street. The task book for the call is currently being drafted, and the Bucharest General Council assigned RON 800,000 (EUR 177,800) to organize the call. Hala Matache Macelarul (Matache the Butcher) was built by the Bucharest City Hall between 1887 and 1899 and was located in the Bucharest North Railway Station area. Hala Traian and Hala Matache were the only 19th century markets which still existing in Bucharest. Hala Traian has been turned into a supermarket, but its structure has been kept. editor@romania-insider.com
