Bucharest Astronomical Observatory reopens to the public after two-year renovation

The Amiral Vasile Urseanu Astronomical Observatory is Bucharest recently reopened to the public after two years of rehabilitation and consolidation work. The rehabilitation work at the Astronomical Observatory started in the summer of 2014, and was supposed to be completed in about one year. The project had a value of some EUR 2.4 million, much of which came from EU funds. Built to look like a boat anchored right in the center of Bucharest, the building hosting the Astronomical Observatory was first inaugurated in the fall of 1910. Currently subordinated to the Bucharest Museum, the Amiral Vasile Urseanu Astronomical Observatory is the only public observatory in Bucharest. The local authorities expect some 10,000 visitors at this museum each year.
