British destroyer will do training at the sea with Romania’s King Ferdinand frigate

British destroyer HMS Daring will carry out several training exercises at the sea with Romania’s King Ferdinand frigate on April 25, according to a statement from the Romanian Naval Forces. Then, the British destroyer will make a two-day stop in Constanta port. In this period, the ship’s commander, Captain Commander Marcus Hember, will visit the Fleet Command and the local authorities in Constanta. Meanwhile, the Romanian and British troops will carry out joint military exercises that will target the development of specific action procedures for missions of inspection and control of ships suspected of illegal traffic at sea. Moreover, according to the statement from the Romanian Naval forces, two Romanian young officers will spend a week aboard the British destroyer, and will participate in the ship’s missions in the Black Sea and the Mediterranean Sea. HMS Daring entered the Royal Navy service in 2009, being the leader of the 45 class destroyers. It has a length of 151 m and can reach the maximum speed of 30 knots. The ship is equipped with three ship-to-air missile systems (Sea Viper and Aster), two ship-to-ship missile launchers (Harpoon), and 13 naval artillery systems and antisubmarine torpedo launchers. According to the Romanian Ministry of Defense, 18 international military drills will be organized in the Black Sea region in June-August this year, reports local Mediafax. Some 40,000 troops from over 20 countries are to take part in these exercises, including around 15,000 Romanian troops. In late-March this year, U.S. Ambassador Hans Klemm said that Romania would host a large-scale military exercise in July, which will bring together some 30,000 troops from NATO member states.
