Romanian official calls for banning electronic cigarettes in public spaces

Romania might attempt to impose restrictions on using electronic cigarettes and tobacco warning devices in public spaces, after it has banned smoking in most public areas. State Secretary Raed Arafat, who is also a doctor and the head of the Emergency Situations Department, took another public stand against such devices, after mentioning earlier this year the need for a law against tobacco advertising and against targeting young people with publicity campaigns. Arafat took to Facebook and posted a CNN article which quoted a study showing a 900% increase in electronic cigarette use in high schools between 2011 and 2015.

“It is clear we have to take urgent action by banning advertising and the use in public spaces, similarly to classic cigarettes, and applicable to all tobacco devices!,” Arafat wrote on Facebook.
