Astra Museum in Sibiu attracts record number of visitors this year

The Astra Museum in Sibiu, central Romania, has attracted a record number of visitors in 2016. A total of 500,000 tourists went to see the museum this year, over 10% more than last year, reports local Digi24. In 2015, the museum complex had over 437,000 visitors, some 75,000 more than in the previous year. The interactive programs seem to be the reason why Astra Museum manages to attract more visitors every year. Many of the museum’s houses are inhabited, and even some of the gardens are cultivated. Moreover, there is also a special place dedicated to children, with miniature objects such as water or windmills, which the children can turn on and off. The Astra National Museum Complex in Sibiu is one of the most important ethno-museum institutions in Romania. Formerly known as the Association Museum, the Astra Museum opened its first exhibition on August 19, 1905. Reorganized under this structure after 1990, Astra National Museum Complex has four museum units of ethnographic profile in its structure and a department of anthropological documentary film.
