Over 7,500 Romanians living abroad register to vote in elections

Over 7,500 Romanians who live abroad have submitted requests to be included in the Electoral Register for voting in the parliamentary elections that are due this fall. Of the total number, over 5,600 want to vote by correspondence and 1,885 plan to cast their votes in voting polls. The requests have been submitted in 38 countries. Most requests came from Spain (2,045), Italy (953), and France (186). People can ask for the establishment of a voting poll closer to their home, besides the polls in embassies, consulates and subsidiaries of the Romanian Institute of Culture. However, at least 100 people from the same place need to submit a request to have a voting poll set up there. Some 3 million people live abroad. At the presidential elections in November 2014, thousands of people queued to vote at Romanian embassies abroad, but many of them didn’t get to vote because there were not enough polling stations. editor@romania-insider.com
