Romanian-born American actor Sebastian Stan, known for his roles in Marvel Universe’s Captain America films, will be the guest of honor of the second edition of the American Independent Film Festival in Bucharest.

The festival takes place between April 27 and May 3, at Cinema Pro and at the Peasant Museum Cinema.

Stan, who was born in the Romanian seaside city of Constanta, moved to Vienna with his mother when he was eight years old. Two years later, he was cast in his first film role, in Michael Haneke’s 71 fragments of a Chronology of Chance. After another two years, he moved to the US. He graduated from the Rutgers University in New Jersey and also studied for a year at the Globe Theater in London.

Throughout his career, he performed in some of the most successful US films, alongside stars such as Matt Damon, Natalie Portman, Scarlett Johansson, Chris Evans and Robert Downey Jr. He also performed in Broadway musicals and in the Gossip Girl series.

In Bucharest, he will showcase his most recent work in Craig Gillespie’s I, Tonya. The film, which centers on the life of figure skater Tonya Harding, received three Oscar nominations this year, a Golden Globe award and five BAFTA nominations.

I, Tonya will open the second edition of the American Independent Film Festival, on April 27. The Romanian public will get the opportunity to see Stan at a post-screening Q&A session, where they can find out what it is like to share the set with Meryl Streep, Margot Robbie, Anne Hathaway or Ashton Kutcher.

Besides Stan, the festival will feature other personalities of North American cinema. It will present a selection of recent American independent films that were well received by critics, and showcased in the circuit of large festivals such as the Sundance, New York, Tribeca, Telluride or Toronto ones.

The first edition of the American Independent Film Festival had actors Ethan Hawke, Joaquin Phoenix and John C. Reilly as special guests. At the same time, director Barry Jenkins, the winner of an Oscar in 2017 for Moonlight, opened the festival with a live Q&A over Skype.
