Romania’s annual inflation rate stays at 0.6% in May

Romania’s annual inflation rate stood at 0.6% in May, a similar level to that registered in April, according to data presented yesterday by the National Statistics Institute (INS).

Food prices saw an increase of 2.3% from May 2016 until May 2017, non-food products got 0.23% more expensive, while service prices went down by 1.26%.

The average increase in consumer prices when compared to April this year was 0.28%.

Food prices were the main contributors to the monthly inflation, with a 0.61% increase. Potatoes, fresh fruits and meat were among the categories that saw the highest price increases in May compared to April.
