Romanians jailed in the UK after stealing GBP 3 mln worth of jewelry

05 April 2017

A group of Romanians, members of a ‘Crime Academy’, got nearly 50 years in jail in the UK after stealing GBP 3 million worth of jewelry in very well planned raids across the country, reports Daily Mail. They managed to get off with GBP 400,000 in a single heist.

Four members of the gang, all originally from Romania, were each jailed for eight years and two months for conspiring to commit burglaries. Meanwhile, others were locked up for periods ranging from six years and six months to eight years.

A footage shows the men smashing through re-enforced glass windows with battering rams and sledge-hammers. Next they crawl through the gaps and, while three of them rush to steal the jewelry, one remains behind and sets a huge fire to distract police when they eventually arrive.

However, the gang apparently used other “traps” during their heists. For example, they tied industrial cable across the road behind them to stop or damage police cars in pursuit, or set fire to cars and shops to distract police from the crimes.
