Emmanuel Macron, the candidate of En Marche!, won the presidential elections in France yesterday with over 65% of the votes, defeating the extreme-right candidate Marine Le Pen.

Macron, who is 39, became the youngest president in the history of the 5th Republic. Pen admitted her defeat in a speech held right after the closing of the ballot boxes.

Romanian president Klaus Iohannis wrote a message in French on Twitter yesterday evening, congratulating Emmanuel Macron for the victory in the presidential elections. Iohannis also said that the strategic partnership between the two countries should continue.

Prime Minister Sorin Grindeanu also congratulated Emmanuel Macron saying that his victory in elections is "historic" and represents good news for Europe and Romania.
