Romanian Government approves state financing for new EUR 55 mln stadium in Craiova

Romania’s Government approved in its last meeting this year, on December 29, a project to build a new football stadium in Craiova, a city of 270,000 in southern Romania.

The project’s cost is estimated at some EUR 55 million. The Government will finance 90% of the cost, which is more than EUR 50 million, via the Ministry of Development. The municipality of Craiova will finance 10% of the project’s costs.

The city of Craiova is run by social-democrat politician Lia Olguta Vasilescu, who is one of PM Victor Ponta’s main supporters.

The new stadium will replace the old “Ion Oblemenco” stadium.
