Romanian film lands distinction at Shanghai film festival

26 June 2017

The Romanian film Scurtcircuit/ Fault Condition, directed by Cătălin Saizescu, has won the Award for Outstanding Artistic Achievement at the Shanghai International Film Festival, which took place between June 17 and June 26.

The film, the first Romanian one to be selected in the event’s official competition, was praised for “the courage to touch upon delicate contemporary dramas and the ability to combine different perspectives on the same truth.”

Fault Condition drew its inspiration from an August 2010 event, when several newborns died in a fire at the intensive neonatology care unit of the Giulesti maternity hospital in Bucharest. The film tells the story of two teenagers caught in the events.

It stars Maruca Băiașu, Manuel Nicolae, and Magda Catone. The film will premiere in local cinemas this fall.

Cătălin Saizescu, 41, is the son of famous Romanian director Geo Saizescu.
