12 September 2017

Romanian employees consider that they deserve higher salaries, according to a survey by the job platform ejobs.ro.

On average, the difference between the current salary and the one considered fair at market level is higher than RON 1,000 (EUR 220). The current wage expectations start from an average wage of RON 2,844 (EUR 618.5), compared to an average wage of RON 2,550 (EUR 554) last year.

Survey participants think they deserve 40% higher salaries than they earn in their current jobs. The largest gap is recorded among young people under the age of 24. They currently earn an average wage of RON 1,500 (EUR 326), but consider that a fair salary would amount to an average of RON 2,261 (EUR 492).

The lowest gap is recorded at people aged 35-45, who believe they should earn 33% more than they currently earn.

Romanian employees' salary expectations have increased over the past year because of the favorable economic developments that have led to increased consumption and, implicitly, higher living standards.
