Romanian e-tailer eMAG reports smaller revenues but moves to profitability

Dante International, the company behind the largest Romanian online retailer eMAG – the leader of the local e-commerce market, reported RON 124 mln net profit compared to RON 181 mln losses in 2021 while its turnover edged down by 3% y/y to RON 7.1 bln, Ziarul Financiar reported.

The group expressed confidence that the e-commerce market will resume growth.

The financial results of Dante International consolidate part of the sales of eMAG’s subsidiaries in Hungary and Bulgaria and of the online fashion retailer Fashion Days.

eMAG invested last year RON 1.12 bln in the development of the company, with the total investments in the last two years exceeding RON 2 bln.

The platform reached 9 million customers in Romania, Hungary and Bulgaria.

The number of entrepreneurs using the eMAG marketplace has reached 54,000 throughout the region. With the acceleration of the cross-border program in 2022, over 5,000 companies from Romania sell on the market of Hungary and 2,500 on the market of Bulgaria.
