30 January 2017

Romanian animation festival Anim'est has been included on the Academy Award's Short Films Qualifying Festival List, the event organizers have announced. As such, the winning film of the Anim'est trophy is eligible each year for consideration for an Oscar in the Animated Short Film category of the Academy Awards without the standard theatrical run.

The Berlin International Film Festival, the British Academy of Film and Television Awards BAFTA, the Cannes International Film Festival, the Sundance Film Festival, and the Venice International Film Festival are included on the same list.

The International Animation Film Festival Anim’est was established in 2006. The festival's program consists of six competitive sections (international feature film, international short film, Romanian film, student film, video, Minimest), the Mozaic section – presenting the latest animation short & feature animations in international film festivals, and also special sections & retrospectives dedicated to important animation studios, directors, film schools and festivals. The Anim'est trophy is granted every year to one of the films competing in the short film competition.

The full list of Short Films Qualifying Festival List can be checked here.

This year’s edition of the festival will take place in Bucharest between October 6 and October 15.

Starting with 2011 the festival is organized in Chisinau as well, and in 2014 it added an edition in Brasov.
