Romania ranked last in the European Union for the share the research and development expenditures in the GDP, which was only 0.38% in 2014. Values below 1% were also recorded in Greece, Bulgaria and Poland, according to EU’s statistics office Eurostat. In Finland, the share of the research and development costs in the GDP reached 3.17% last year. It was followed by Sweden (3.16%), and Denmark (3.08%). Austria allocated 2.99% of its GDP for research and development, Germany granted 2.84%, whereas Belgium gave 2.46%. Romania ranked last followed by Cyprus (0.47%), Latvia (0.68%), and Croatia (0.79%). editor@romania-insider.com
