The Romanian Finance Ministry announced that it will maintain the temporary 25% reduction in the excise duty on standard diesel between October 1 and 15. The decision follows the latest twice-monthly review under the mechanism established by law.
The reduction amounts to RON 701.07 per 1,000 litres, or RON 829.69 per tonne. The effective excise duty during the first half of October will consequently remain at RON 2,103.22 per 1,000 litres and RON 2,489.05 per tonne.
“The measure continues the intervention applied during the previous period and reflects the continuing pressure on the fuel market,” the ministry said.
The mechanism adjusts the excise reduction according to changes in international diesel quotations and pump prices. It is reviewed every two weeks to limit the impact of fuel price increases on households and businesses.
The ministry’s assessment for the first half of October found that Platts diesel quotations had risen by 63.7%, while the average pump price of standard diesel had increased by 35.01%.
“The intervention seeks to limit the knock-on effects of fuel costs, particularly in transport and logistics, and their impact on costs across the economy and consumer prices,” reads the statement.
The Finance Ministry said it would continue monitoring international market quotations and domestic pump prices ahead of the next review.
