Dan Pița, born in 1938 in Dorohoi, in Northern Eastern Romania, has directed several award-winning films since 1970, including the 1985 hit Pas în doi/Passo doble, which won an Honourable Mention at the Berlin International Film Festival in 1986.

A year later, Pita was a member of the jury at the 37th Berlin International Film Festival.

Among his best known features are Nunta de piatra/Stone Wedding from 1972, Profetul, aurul şi ardelenii/ The Prophet, the Gold and the Transylvanians from 1978, Tanase Scatiu from 1976, Pruncul, petrolul şi ardelenii/ The Oil, the Baby and the Transylvanians in 1981 and Noiembrie, ultimul bal /The Last Ball in November from 1989.

His latest directed film appeared in 2013 - Kira Kiralina.
