Romanian Govt. secretly prepares bill amending special pensions law

31 July 2017

Romania’s Government is preparing to adopt this week an emergency ordinance amending the special pensions act for police, army and secret services, several government sources told Hotnews.ro.

Labor minister Olguta Vasilescu is secretly drafting the bill together with a small group, including Mariana Mot, state secretary within the Justice Ministry. This is the real reason of the extraordinary parliamentary session summoned by the Social democratic leader Liviu Dragnea for this week, according to the same sources.

The new bill provides that the police, military and secret service officers retiring under the new law will have a much lower pension than under the current law. The rumors around the new law have led to massive departures from the system in recent weeks.

According to Hotnews.ro information, magistrates will not be affected by the new law.
