Photography exhibition of Romanian contemporary personalities running in Carturesti, Bucharest

11 January 2013

An exhibition of 29 portraits of Romanian celebrities, by photographer Matei Buta, is currently running in the tearoom at the Carturesti Verona bookshop, according to the local press.

The project called Romani frumosi (Beautiful Romanians), is an invitation to get to know outstanding contemporary figures in fields such as history, medicine, film, theater, music, scientific research, literature, folk art, theology, architecture and sculpture. As well as Matei Bruta's photos, the exhibition will include information about the lives and achievements of the subjects.

Between May and June 15, 2012 the photographs were split up into four exhibitions in the Carturesti bookshops in Constanta, Iasi, Cluj and Timisoara. The 29 Beautiful Romanians are united for the first time in the Bucharest exhibition, which runs until January 19 at Cărtureşti Verona in Bucharest.

Thus, visitors can see, among others, a portrait of a teenage Romanian mountaineer girl who at the age of only 17, has already been on 21 expeditions, set six age records and conquered seven volcanoes. Also appearing in the exhibition are the actress with the most UNITER awards, the first plastic surgeon for children; an internationally famous seamstress from Maramures, the Romanian architect who designed the tallest building in the world in the 20th century, the first Romanian doctor to perform a heart transplant in 1964 and the only Romanian cosmonaut.

Matei Bruta is a freelance photographer, as well as portraits, he does landscape and street photography. Matei has served his apprenticeship in portrait photography in the US and Beautiful Romanians is his first exhibition project.
