A delegation from the natural gas company OMV, one of the largest players in Romania's energy market, met with president Nicușor Dan and acting prime minister Ilie Bolojan on Monday, October 5.
Emma Delaney, new OMV CEO, led the delegation that first met with the president. According to diplomatic sources cited by ProTV, the two discussed when gas production from the Neptun Deep field will actually begin and then enter the transmission system, as well as what this project will mean for Romania’s energy security.
The first gas is expected to enter the national network in the first half of next year, according to the company.
During the subsequent meeting with the prime minister, OMV representatives discussed developments in the energy sector amid fluctuations in fuel prices driven by international conflicts and supply crises.
An important point of this discussion referred to the Neptun Deep project as well. Bolojan emphasized the importance of natural gas resources in the Black Sea for the Romanian economy, which will contribute to strengthening national energy security.
“The completion of the investment and the start of gas extraction in the Neptun Deep field must remain government priorities so that Romania can capitalize on the resources in the Black Sea for the benefit of the national economy and the entire region. We must find operational cooperation formulas to ensure convergence of action in this strategic project for both parties,” acting prime minister Ilie Bolojan said.
The new OMV head, Emma Delaney, was named Chairwoman of the Executive Board and CEO of the company as of September 1. She is also Chairwoman of the Supervisory Board of OMV Petrom and Vice Chairwoman of the Supervisory Board of Borouge Group International AG.
She holds a bachelor’s degree in Economics and Business from Trinity College Dublin and a master’s degree in management from ESCP Europe. A native English speaker, she is also fluent in French and German.
With extensive experience in the international energy industry, Delaney has strong leadership expertise in both the upstream and downstream sectors. She is recognized for her strategic perspective, extensive commercial skills, and collaborative leadership style.
Before joining the OMV Group, Delaney served as Executive Vice President, Customers and Products, while also being a member of BP’s Executive Committee. In this position, she globally coordinated a portfolio that included fuels, convenience stores, biofuels, aviation fuels, advanced lubricants, and electric vehicle charging solutions. Delaney played a key role in transforming BP’s Customers and Products division, focusing on operational excellence, portfolio optimization, and value creation.
