Nine out of 50 cars verified in Romania are traffic threats

18 February 2016

The Romanian Auto Registry (RAR) verified over 81,700 vehicles last year and found that over 4,500, namely 5.5% of them, were a threat to the traffic as they could have broken at any moment.

Most of them had major malfunctions in the brake and steering systems.

In some of the cases, the authorities withheld the cars’ registration certificates thus banning them from public roads. The certificate can be recovered only after a full technical inspection at the Romanian Auto Registry.

However, the results don’t reflect the general condition of Romania’s car fleet, said George-Adrian Dinca, RAR general director. The mixed RAR-Police crews only stop the cars that seem likely to malfunction.
