World Bank country economist: Romania will have no deal with the IMF before the elections

It is unlikely that Romania will close another deal with the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and the European Commission (EC), as the country is entering an election year, according to Catalin Pauna, country economist with the World Bank. He said that such an agreement lasts a minimum of 18 months and needs continuity, reports local Agerpres. Moreover, Romania recently ended an agreement with the IMF and EC, without getting any review in 2015. Pauna said that the World Bank estimated that Romania would register a 3.6% economic growth this year, as the drought this summer affected the local agriculture. For the next two years, however, the forecast is more optimist, indicating a 3.9% GDP increase in 2016 followed by a 4.1% growth in 2017. editor@romania-insider.com
