Wizz Air wants 1.7 mln passengers in 2013, adds three routes into Bucharest, Romania

Low-cost airline WizzAir announced today (October 31) the launch of three new routes from Bucharest, to Alghero (Sardinia, Italy),Oslo (Norway) and Geneva (Switzerland). Two flights a week will operate on all three new routes from May 2013, with prices starting from RON 92 for Alghero (Sardinia) and RON 142 for the business centers Geneva and Oslo.

Gyorgy Abran, Chief Commercial Officer at Wizz Air, said that passenger numbers from and to Bucharest are expected to increase by 200,000 next year as a result of the new routes. The company expects 1.5 million passengers for this year in and out of Bucharest, and 1.7 million in 2013. “We believe that these three routes will support local businesses and professionals working abroad, as well as offering access to popular beach and ski destinations in Western Europe," said Gyorgy Abran. In a separate announcement, Valentin Iordache, Director Communication,Bucharest Airports National Company, said that the Otopeni airport will be opening a new departures terminal on November 6, after a EUR 52 million investment, and for the beginning they will be operating only internal flights. Wizz Air is one of the main airlines for low cost flights to Central and Eastern Europe. The company was founded in 2003 and operates a fleet of 39 Airbus A320 airplanes from 16 bases, with over 250 routes connecting 81 destinations from 29 countries.
