Why are people still protesting in the streets of Bucharest?

Romania’s street protests reached third day, as over 10,000 people gathered on Thursday evening in the University Square in Bucharest. Some of the protesters have made lists with demands. Among others, they have asked that the new prime minister should not be member of any political party, the number of MPs should drop from 600 to maximum 300, and the political alliances concluded after elections should be forbidden.

Also, the members of the Parliament should not benefit anymore from political impunity during their term, according to protesters.

The stolen wealth of people charged with corruption should be seized in maximum three months. Other asked for higher budget for the health and education sectors and for lower and more transparent contributions to the Orthodox Church.

Earlier that day, president Klaus Iohannis said that protesters should send a list of their representatives by midnight, who could come to the Cotroceni Palace for consultations the next day. However many considered that a few hours were not enough to organize and appoint representatives whereas others said that all the protesters were “street representatives”.
