Who does Bucharest’s mayor share his cell with?

Bucharest’s mayor Sorin Oprescu, who was arrested on Sunday on bribery charges, shares his prison cell with six other people, including two notorious inmates, according to Digi 24 news station. One of them is Iraqi-American citizen Mohammad Munaf, who was recently brought to Romania to serve a 10-year jail sentence for his involvement in the kidnapping of three Romanian journalists in Iraq, in 2005. Munaf's business partner Omar Hayssam is also serving a 20-year prison sentence in Romania after he was found guilty of orchestrating the kidnapping. Oprescu’s other famous cell mate is local kingpin Sile Camataru, who has served several jail convictions for pandering, usury, and other crimes. Sile Camataru is currently in arrest, after starting a fight a few weeks ago at the Bucharest Court of Appeal where he and his brother Nutu Camataru were on trial. Sorin Oprescu was held on Saturday night after the prosecutors intercepted him in traffic and found EUR 5,000 on him. The money was marked and it turned out that he had received EUR 25,000 that evening from a briber. Oprescu has refused to eat in arrest, saying that the food served there didn’t correspond to his diet, as he’s a diabetic, according to judicial sources quoted by Digi 24.
