Volkswagen scandal causes EUR 30 mln damage in Romania

The Romanian state has taken a damage of over EUR 30 million in the Volkswagen case, as over 105,000 cars sold by the German group in Romania have been found to pollute more than officially declared. The people who have bought these cars have paid eco taxes Euro 5 engines, when in reality the cars had Euro 4 engines and the environment taxes for them should have been higher. A working group which was recently set up by the Environment Ministry and the Transport Ministry has calculated the damage, reports local Agerpres. The state will try to recover the money from the German company.

The Environment Minister Gratiela Gavrilescu said that the Romanian car owners will not have to suffer due to the crisis, by paying extra taxes.
