Volkswagen remains the Romanians' favorite car brand

Volkswagen remains the Romanians' favorite car brand, with over 93,000 units registered last year, or 23.8% of the total, surpassing more than three times the national brand Dacia, according to data published by the Directorate for Driving Licenses and Vehicle Registration (DRPCIV). The total number of car registrations, both new and used, reached over 392,200 last year, up 18.2% compared to 2015. After Volkswagen, Romanians’ favorite car brands were Opel (53,000 units), Ford (39,800), Dacia (30,400 cars), and BMW (26,600 units). In the new cars segment, Dacia remained the market leader with 27,600 units sold, or 29.1% of the total new car registrations. Volkswagen dominated the used cars market with around 84,800 units registered last year. editor@romania-insider.com
