Vodafone joins road tax payment via SMS program in Romania

The road tax, called the Rovinieta, valid for one day or for one week is now payable via text message on the Vodafone network too, after the option was added by telecom company Orange in December last year. The seven day tax costs EUR 2.74 for cars and EUR 5.4 for trucks under 3.5 tonnes. For clients with a Vodafone subscription, VAT will be added to the mentioned tariffs on their bill, while for those with pre-paid cards, the VAT will be applied when buying the credit. To buy the Rovinieta, the Vodafone client will have to send a text to the short number 7500 with the car's registration number, plus the type of Rovinieta needed. They will then be informed via a response message that the Rovinieta has been issued for the data mentioned, as well as of the cost of the tax and the total cost of the transaction. For more information on buying the Rovinieta via text message, those interested can call the number 1761, with normal tariffs, which can be used for both Vodafone and Orange customers. Orange customers can also use the number 7500 for paying the Rovinieta via short text message. Messages sent to this number cost EUR 0.05. editor@romania-insider.com
