US companies invest USD 1.3 bln in Romania

The US investments in Romania amounted to USD 1.3 billion at the end of June this year, up by 4.8% compared to June 2014. The number of companies in Romania which have a US capital reached 7,000. The US investments focused mainly on wholesale and retail trade (27%), real estate (16.8%), mining and quarrying and manufacturing industry (12.7%). US companies were also interested in the sector of professional, administrative and technical activities (12.4%), as well as transport, communications and storage (10.5%). The investments in construction had an 8.2% share, whereas those in hotels and restaurants had a share of 5.5%. The value of bilateral trade between Romania and the US reached about USD 1 billion in the first six months of 2015, according to a statement of the Ministry of Economy. The value of Romanian exports to the US totaled USD 597 million, whereas the imports from the US amounted to USD 403 million. editor@romania-insider.com
