Two Romanian projects among winners of Intel app challenge

Two Romanian projects are among the winners of Intel RealSense App Challenge, a competition which aims to redefine the boundaries between human and computer interaction. It offered total prizes of some USD 1 million. A total of 7,000 projects from 37 countries were registered in the competition, reports local Hotnews.com. The Drill Sergeant Stimulator app was a winner in the Gaming category, getting the second prize of USD 10,000. Romanians Silviu-Tudor Serban and Andrei Nistor created this app. The game uses 3D camera technology to perform hand gesture recognition and to interpret facial expressions. Drill Sergeant Simulator combines several types of input, which are then projected in the virtual environment: the player’s hand gestures, voice commands, facial expressions. More about it here. MoodFlux, created by Claudiu Cretu, Calin Mihalceanu, Alex Marinescu, David Lapsanschi and Miklos Albert, was a winner in the Natural Interaction category. The Romanian team also got a second prize of USD 10,000. The app is a next step in how people interact with their music, no matter if it’s on a PC or on any other device. The app has all the characteristics of an audio player, but the way the user interacts with the app and manages his collection of songs is different. The user can navigate the interface, control and manage the songs by making gestures in the air, without needing a mouse or keyboard. More about it here.
