Two bidders for digital TV multiplexes in Romania

Two Romanian telecoms, RCS & RDS and the state-owned Societatea Națională de Radiocomunicații submitted offers in the bid for the five digital TV multiplexes, according to the Romanian communication authority ANCOM. The two offers submitted will be analyzed until May 15, and the initial bids of the companies which will qualify will go under evaluation until May 22. This will be organized as a competitive selection procedure, which means each company has to submit an initial offer indicating the number of multiplexes it wishes to acquire. If demand exceeds the number of available multiplexes, bid rounds will be organized. The starting price is EUR 300,000 – the minimum license fee. All licenses will be valid 10 years, starting June 17, 2015. Romania is auctioning five multiplexes, four in UHF, which will broadcast under ‘free to air’ conditions, private and public TV stations which are currently broadcasting under terrestrial analogue, and one in VHF. editor@romania-insider.com
