Romania's Transelectrica gets EUR 27 mln from EC for new power line

Romania’s power grid operator Transelectrica, which is controlled by the state, will get a non-reimbursable financing from the European Commission worth EUR 27 million. The company will use the money for building a new 400 kV power line between Cernavoda and Stalpu, in Romania’s Dobrogea region. This is the first of six major projects for which Transelectrica wants to get EU financing. The total value of the six investment projects is some RON 1 billion (EUR 215 million). Once finalized, these power lines will form Romania’s 400 kV power ring, which will increase the security of the national power system. The Cernavoda-Stalpu power line will contribute to increasing the interconnection capacity between Romania and Bulgaria and integrating the wind power projects in Dobrogea. The line will have 160 kilometers and will also need a new power station at Stalpu. The power line will be finalized in 2020, according to Transelectrica’s 10-year development plan. editor@romania-insider.com
