Train travel time to decrease by 20% in Romania by 2020

One in four inhabitants of Bucharest will use the subway by 2020, and the train travel time will decrease by 20% on all railways in Romania that are part of the Trans-European Transport Networks TEN-T, said Regional Policy Commissioner Corina Cretu. She spoke during the event which marked the approval of the Large Infrastructure Operational Programme (POIM) for the 2014-2020 programming period. Romania will receive almost EUR 9.5 billion through this programme, for investments in environment, energy and transport projects, reports local Mediafax. POIM includes Romania’s General Master Plan for Transportation, a strategic document based on which Romania will access European funds for transport between 2014 and 2020. POIM will also allow Romania to reach European standards in waste and water management, said the Regional Policy Commissioner. “I hope that all of Romania’s population will have access to drinking water from any public source by 2020, and that 50% of the household waste will be recycled,” she added. editor@romania-insider.com
