Three police chiefs in Romania detained for 24h for abuse of office

Three Romanian police chiefs were detained by the National Anticorruption Department DNA for 24 hours for abuse of office. They’ve allegedly claimed and received money or goods to overlook irregularities discovered while on missions. Ioan Ovidiu Muresan, chief inspector of Bistria-Nasaud County Police Inspectorate, and Roberto Emil Hasnas, the chief of the county’s traffic police, were detained for 24 hours for allegedly obtaining undue advantages for themselves or for other persons, in repeated form, according to a DNA statement. Leon Anton Closca, chief of Nasaud Town Police, was also detained for abuse of office, being accused of obtaining undue advantages for himself or for others, and for conducting commercial operations, which were incompatible with his position. They are to be presented to Cluj Court, where the judges will decide on their preventive arrest for 30 days. Irina Popescu, irina.popescu@romania-insider.com
