The worst national road in Romania to be revamped with EUR 92 mln from EIB

Romania’s Company for Highways and National Roads (CNADNR) plans to revamp a 90-kilometer road segment which connects the villages of Iacobeni, in Suceava county, and Moisei, in Maramures. The estimated value of the project could go up to EUR 92 million (without VAT), according to Mediafax newswire. The road between Iacobeni and Moisei (DN18) is probably the worst national road in Romania at the moment, hole after hole, for 60 kilometers or more. The road should have been revamped by Israeli company Shapir Structures, by August 2013, but the EUR 81 million contract was cancelled in May 2014, because Shapir didn’t execute the work. CNADNR has launched a public auction to find the contractor for this project, and expects the offers until February 17. The project’s estimated value starts at some EUR 80 million (without VAT) and can go up to EUR 92 million (also without VAT). The project is financed by the European Investment Bank (EIB) and by Romania’s Government. The term for finalizing the project is four years from the date at which the project will be awarded.
