The European Investment Bank lends EUR 228 mln to Romania

The European Investment Bank (EIB) signed loans totaling EUR 228 million in Romania last year. It provided funds of some EUR 2.6 billion in the past five years (2011-2015) and more than EUR 10.6 billion in the last 25 years. Besides loans, the European Investment Bank has also provided technical assistance to attract more EU funds. EIB helped complete some 230 projects, which benefited of EUR 18.5 billion EU funds. Some 96 schemes totaling EUR 11.5 billion are ongoing. The European Investment Fund, a specialized division of the EIB Group, has had commitments of EUR 264.8 million in Romania in the last five years. It has mobilized some EUR 663.7 million for the small and medium-sized companies. The fund does not lend money to SMEs directly, but it provides finance through private banks and funds. The European Investment Bank’s President Werner Hoyer came to Romania to meet President Klaus Iohannis and Prime Minister Dacian Ciolos on Tuesday. editor@romania-insider.com
